The history of Lolita fashion

Lolita fashion originated in Japan. It wouldn't be rare, in Harajuku, to see two young girls dressed in a sophisticated manner, with beautiful frilly dresses. This fashion appeared in the 80s and takes up the Victorian aesthetic, adapted to the Kawaii taste that the Japanese appreciate so much.

Although each Lolita outfit has common inspirations (Victorian style, platform shoes, knee-length dresses), each style has additional inspirations that make the outfits vary for every lady.

For example, we can see the Gothic Lolita, a mix of Gothic style and Victorian and Kawaii dresses, the Wa Lolita, or the Shiro or Kuro Lolita, which bet on their all-white or all-black outfits.

The Sailor Lolita is a style derived from the Lolita, inspired by Japanese Sailor uniforms and nautical motifs. The colours are often very recognizable: white, black and dark blue tones. Nautical motifs such as anchors, boat wheels or buoys are common.
